We, the creatures living on earth, obtain our energy from the sun’s lightrays. The Kinetic Sun is an art piece celebrating the sun, its fire, and life-giving energy. With that, it also highlights the first technology of humanity, which was arguably fire, and the intrinsic link of technology to the sun's energy. To expose this connection, the wide-stretching rays of the Kinetic Sun are moved by a planetary gear in the center of the piece.

The Kinetic Sun will be built out of plywood and designed in a steampunk-look by exposing some parts of the inner layers. The total dimensions including rays will be about 150cm x 120cm x 20cm with the sun having about 60cm diameter. It is supposed to cast some light in the dark of the night.

The motor of the sun is powered by a local energy supply (not batteries). The project is built on re-usable materials, it can be disassembled, reused and transported.
